International standard outdoor badminton court size

The international standard badminton court size is regulated by BWF World Badminton Federation. Depending on the type of competition (single badminton or double badminton), the badminton court has two different types of courts: singles badminton courts and doubles badminton courts.

Single badminton court size

The size of the singles badminton court is regulated by the BWF World Badminton Federation:

(iii) Diagonal length : 14.3m

(iv) Total area of badminton court: 69,412 m2

The thickness of the boundary line is 4cm and is usually drawn in white or yellow to distinguish it from the background color.

Double badminton size

Badminton World Federation (BWF) regulates double badminton sizes that meet international standards as follows:

(i) About the length of the doubles court: 13.40m

(iii) About the length of the diagonal of the yard: 14.70m

(iv) The thickness of the boundary line is 4cm and is usually painted in white or yellow (for easy identification from the background color of the field).

Note: The size of the badminton court (both singles and doubles) will be measured from the outer edge of one line to the outer edge of the other.

In addition to the specific characteristics mentioned above, badminton courts need to meet the following standards:

(i) The height of the yard is at least 9m, the space around the yard is at least 2m wide and there are no obstacles nearby.

(ii) For two badminton courts next to each other, the distance between the two courts must be at least 2m.

(iii) The wall surrounding the badminton court is preferably dark in color and the court must be closed to prevent wind from entering.

Technical requirements for outdoor badminton court surface

About the surface of the outdoor badminton court

Badminton courts have many different types of floors. Such as multi-purpose flooring, indoor wooden court surface, synthetic rubber plastic surface. However, in this article we will talk more specifically about Asphalts concrete and hot plastic floors that are often used to construct outdoor badminton courts.

The cement base has a thickness of 10 cm, the concrete layer (asphalt concrete) is at least 200 Mpa, the surface is smooth, not rough.

The minimum pitch slope is 0.83% and the maximum is 1%. In addition, it is required that the ground surface should be smooth, there should be no 1.2mm water stagnation (checked with coin money).

With an outdoor badminton court, the ground is a very important factor. With a hard ground, when constructing, we only need to mix stone and sand about 25cm - 30cm on average. Conversely, if the foundation is weak, you will need to drive concrete piles and the elevation will vary depending on the condition.

In addition, you also need to limit the heat expansion joints with the badminton court floor. Because it will affect the aesthetics, and the processing stage when painting badminton later.

The line of the badminton court must be 40 mm, can be drawn with chalk or any powder. At the same time, you can also design a protective fence around the badminton court with iron bars.

Competition net

The net of the badminton court needs to be strong, to keep its stability when it is windy or rainy. Grid and grid height can be adjusted accordingly.

Mesh material can be vinyl, nylon or polyethylene to ensure durability over time.

The net should be 1.52m high from the center of the pitch and 1.55m at the poles. Mesh thickness ranges from 15-20mm. And should choose a dark net to install for the badminton court.

Outdoor badminton court lighting system

If we usually play badminton at night, please arrange the LED floodlight about 400 W. The height of the LED light pole should be about 8 to 9 meters.

With the above parameters, the LED headlights will give clear, true light, without affecting the athlete's ability to compete.
